BALLET

Ballet is the foundation of all dance training and technique. It is a highly structured dance form with specific techniques and placements. It is typically performed to classical music. It requires high levels of discipline and focus. At PRDS we teach the Cecchetti Method of Ballet.

POINTE

Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. A dancer is said to be en pointe when the dancer's body is supported in this manner. Pointe work is performed while wearing pointe shoes, which employ structural reinforcing to distribute the dancer's weight load throughout the foot, thus reducing the load on the toes enough to enable the dancer to support all body weight on fully vertical feet. At PRDS all dancers must attend Pre-Pointe classes before they can transition to Pointe and all classes are by recommendation only.

JAZZ

Jazz is a core discipline that allows dancers a stronger and faster pace style of dance. Our teachers are influenced by varying choreographers and different techniques, which ensures our dancers are exposed to all styles to gain a good understanding and balanced knowledge of Jazz dance.  Jazz is a great genre to add to anyone’s dancing, as it is highly beneficial to add stamina, strength, flexibility, performance and style to your dance technique.

TAP

The genre of Tap has many different styles and it is a fun yet challenging way to broaden any dancers talent! Tap has a strong focus on rhythms, foot work, essentially making music with the feet. Tap is a great genre for any student with a great deal of energy and a love for music.

LYRICAL

Embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics and modern dance. It tends to use flowing movements as well as ballet technique. It gives dancers and choreographers the freedom to use musicality, creative expression and emotion.

CONTEMPORARY

A genre that entails a high level of technical dance foundation and understanding. Incorporates grounded movements, floor work and combines many dance genres, but typically uses technique and movements from modern dance. Contemporary is a highly creative dance genre, giving a lot of creative freedom to the choreographers and dancers.

HIP HOP

A street inspired dance style that is typically done to hip hop music. Typically incorporates intricate, fast, hard hitting, stylized movements and a grounded stance. There are many different styles of hip hop dance within the genre.

ACRO

A mixture of acrobatics and dance technique. Incorporates flexibility, strength and balance. To enroll in Acro Choreo, dancers must also be enrolled in Acro Tech and Jazz

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

For preschool level dancers. Typically has a ballet foundation, but also incorporates activities and exercises that teach young dancers about movement in a way that is fun and engaging for them. Creative movement classes are a fantastic way to introduce movement and dance to young children.
